Mürmann – Innovative youth and culture center
In Görlitz, East Germany, a youth and sociocultural center is being created in a veneer factory built in 1904. The complex renovation measures in the industrial ruin involve the demolition of the roof and various interior walls. Conservation of the steel supports and workshop crane are designed to retain the industrial character of the building. At present a new workshop roof is being constructed. The gable roof is underspanned by m.connect tension rods Type M42. The filigree underspan design blends well with the whole building. Interesting conversion projects for former industrial buildings are currently underway throughout Germany with the aim of preserving industrial architecture. In Newsletter no. 120 we have already reported on the conversion of a former foundry in Ingolstadt. Further use of our compression and tension rod systems can be expected in this field in future.
