In a foundry listed as a historic monument in Ingolstadt, Germany, a modern art and design museum is to be created by 2019. Modern building technology is thereby to be combined with the historic structure. To create additional exhibition space under the old structure, a large basement is being constructed. This is only possible if the existing steel structure and the cast-iron supports in the middle of the building can be removed during construction of the basement. The solution is an interim steel construction in which prestressed m.connect tension rod systems are used. On conclusion of the building work the steel construction will be rebuilt and the old supports will once again form part of the bearing structure.
